How to Upcycle...

Upcycled Stamper

Each month Upcycle Micheal shows you how to upcycle some old materials into something super cool!

What you need this month...

Upcycle cardboard boxes, scrap craft materials and natural finds into your own chilly winter scene, complete with spectacular northern lights!

A small cardboard box and Pinecones or Acorns.
Some cotton wool balls and a clear milk bottle lid.
Scissors, Glue, Glue Brush or Stick.
Colourful paint, a paintbrush, and leftover crafts.

The Upcycle...

Step 1

Ask an adult to help you cut off one side of a small box, or cut an edge from a larger box to make an open diorama.

Step 2

Paint wavy lines of colour on the back and sides of your box to create magical northern lights. Let the paint dry.

Step 3

Unroll your cotton wool carefully. … I was going to tell a great sheep joke, but I didn’t want to pull the wool over your eyes. HAHA!

Step 4

Glue flat rolls of cotton to the base of your box to make snowy ground. Pinch smaller strips of cotton to glue around your pinecones like snow on trees, and glue into position. If you don’t have any pinecones, get creative – stack up pompoms or try making your own cardboard trees.

Step 5

Place a clear decorative milk bottle lid to make a frozen lake. Glue cotton snowdrifts around it, and add any other finishing touches with the craft materials you have.

Step 6

Let your winter diorama dry, then display your winter scene!
